Fontys R11

Three new buildings – R11, R12 and R13 with over 24,000 m2 of educational programme – for one campus. We designed three interiors, in which the individual qualities of the building and its defining elements are strongly emphasized. Building R11 occupies a special and central place on campus and functions as a ‘living room’.

R11: colorful at its core
Due to the integrated communal facilities for students and employees of Fontys, R11 is there for all users. The restaurant and media library, for example, are included in this building. The interior creates a strong connection with the landscape and the lively public space on the campus side: glass facades offer transparency, for maximized contact with the public space around many places to meet each other are situated on this side.

In order to create as much flexibility and spacious, open floors as possible here, other spaces such as stairs, toilets and corridors have been placed in a closed block. This core has different shades of green. Where we opted for a striking dark green on the outside, the deeper the core becomes lighter and more neutral in the use of colour. This application of colour not only makes it pleasantly clear where you are in the building, but is also used in the signage.

In addition to an individual character of all three buildings, they are also related to each other in architecture and interior. Read more about our approach and sustainability on the pages of the campus, R12 and R13.

“The shared facilities for students and employees of Fontys make R11 available to all users. To create as much flexibility and open floors as possible, other spaces have been placed in a closed volume.”
“The closed volume has different shades of green. Where we opted for a striking green on the outside, the deeper in the volume it becomes lighter and more neutral in the use of color.”
